  • A new visitor sign-in security system has been installed in all Spotsylvania County Schools in order to better protect our students, staff, and visitors. All parents and visitors to Riverbend High School must present a government-issued photo ID before entering the school to pick up their student or to conduct business. Thank you for your cooperation as we implement this new system.
  • By Monday, February 3, all 9th, 10th, and 11th grade students will have received their scheduling materials for next year. Each student received a Catalog of Course Offerings and a Teacher Recommendation Form.  Students will be meeting individually with their counselor beginning February 10 - February 28.  
     
    During the week of February 3 - all students should be getting next-year course recommendations from teachers.  Students can also sign up for Bear Block AP information sessions. 
     
    February 10 - 14 -  scheduling 10th grade in PE 10 classes
     
    February 17 - 24 - scheduling 9th grade in English 9 classes
     
    February 24 - 28 - scheduling 11th grade in English 11 classes
     
    Points to Remember:
    • Discuss course selection with parents/teachers/counselor
    • Be prepared to meet with your counselor
    • Sign up for AP information sessions the week of February 3 - 7
    • Explore Career and Technical Center courses as well as electives at Riverbend
    • Select rigorous courses to prepare for college and career
    • Choose 3 alternate elective choices
  • The Spring Athletic Fee Collection Night and Coaches Meetings will be Monday, March 3, 2014. Parents meetings will be held at 6:00pm. Athletic Fee Collection begins 7:00pm in the Commons.
  • Sign up for the Spring SAT/ACT testing dates NOW! Upcoming SAT tests are on March 8, May 3, and June 7 with the deadline for the earliest test (March 8) being February 7. ACT test dates are April 12 and June 14 with an initial deadline of April 4.
    - To register for the SAT, please visit sat.collegeboard.org/register/sat-us-dates
    - To register for the ACT, please visit www.actstudent.org/start

    On February 5 from 6:00-8:00 PM, counselors will be available in the Library to answer questions about the different tests and to assist with registration. Computers will also be available for you to register while here at school for your convenience.

    It is recommended for the following students to test this spring:
    - SAT: All juniors, all students in Algebra II, and all students in geometry
    - ACT: All 9th and 10th grades in Algebra II (non-writing); all juniors (including the writing section)

Anna Gleason Honored for Volunteer Service with National Awards

Riverbend High School 9th grader Anna Gleason has been honored for her exemplary volunteer service with a Certificate of Excellence from The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards, and with a President’s Volunteer Service Award granted by the program on behalf of President Barack Obama.  Presented annually, the Prudential Financial in partnership with the National Association of Secondary School Principals (NASSP), The Prudential Spirit of Community Awards honors young people across America for outstanding volunteer service.  Certificates of Excellence are granted to the top 10 percent of all Prudential Spirit of Community Award applicants in each state and the District of Columbia.  Anna Gleason was selected for this national honor this fall in recognition of her volunteer service.
